At the end of the day, the joy, for some of us, really is all about the music and the people we share it with.

DJ Van Helsing

I grew up in the club life of the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 80's. My first friends in DJ life were DJ Bernard Cabigon and the infamous DJ Page Hodel, for whom I carried record crates in and out of many venues including Club X and CityLights and handled tech tasks for Page's club, The Box on Divisadero, for years.

In the early 90's, I handled tech tasks for Jacek Rosciki at The Edge and worked as a promoter, sometime light operator, and partner with DJs Beat Boi & Don Divine at The U.N. Dance Club @ The Edge in Palo Alto.

I learned my trade in dance clubs from San Jose and Santa Clara to Sunnyvale, and Palo Alto to San Francisco, Sacramento, and beyond. I came to appreciate the diverse array of genres that comprise alternative dance music. My good fortune has allowed me to attend nearly every major goth/industrial club in North America.

In 2014, at the insistence of some very insistent friends, I returned to promotion by converting "Goth Ball", a local Goth house party in Bozeman Montana, into a semi-annual club night, centered around Halloween and Valentines Day in both Missoula and Bozeman Montana. I also returned to the booth, as DJ Van Helsing where I immersed myself in the world of Traktor.

I have performed in clubs from the West Coast to the Rocky Mountains and appeared as a guest host on both traditional and internet radio shows.

I am an Elder Goth and have been affiliated with DeathGuild San Francisco for most of the last quarter century. I am also a member of The Mercury in Seattle. My work has been greatly influenced by veteran San Francisco DJs Decay, Joe Radio, Sage, Bit, Netik, Star Noir, Davey Bones and Owen and I have been privileged to work with the incomparable DJs Melting Girl and Tomas Diablo at Dark Shadows at The Cat Club SF.
